Banchetti and his wife Eliza owned a popular restaurant by the same name on Cole Avenue in Uptown for more than 25 years. But with the rebirth of that north end of Uptown, which now houses a Trader Joe’s and other new developments, Adelmo Banchetti says the neighborhood “wasn’t so much for us” anymore.
The restaurant closed in late March. The Banchettis were already working on a new menu for the new Adelmo’s, which opened in place of the former Bijoux in Inwood Village. Both the new and the old restaurant can be described as “Italian food with a connection to the Middle East,” Banchetti says. Banchetti is from Florence, Italy, and Eliza is from Beirut, Lebanon.
